what I'm listening to

Pancake Buffet

A charcuterie board with pancakes, anyone?

All you need is several different variations of pancakes, Nutella, peanut butter, jam/compote, syrup, whipped cream, nuts and fruit...this is such a cool idea for any meal, a sleepover, or a party!

It's very adaptable for different tastes and needs and it's definitely a favorite!

Some of our favorite variations of pancakes are chocolate chip, berry, bacon, double chocolate chip, caramel/coconut/almond and chocolate peppermint.

It's such a cold and rainy summer :(
46 degrees and rainy nearly every day...
but the greenhouses are nice!

Simple Rhubarb-Berry Crisp

This simple, fairly quick to come together, delicious rhubarb berry crisp is definitely a crowd pleaser. I'm still playing around with the tapioca starch amount, because it was too runny (but it could be just because I substituted it for cornstarch).

big news + an update

Some big news from this past month:

I turned sixteen the beginning of June. You know how everybody always asks you, "Do you feel any different?" And you never do? Well, I actually did this time!

I got my drivers license! I'm so excited to be able to just drive whenever, wherever...living 30-45 minutes from all the action can be hard sometimes!

Also, all my allergies have been cleared! After months and months of taking pills and supplements, restricting nearly a dozen foods, going to my doctor for rounds of clearing and testing...they are gone. I am thrilled and am currently weaning myself back onto those foods (caffeine is still really, really sensitive for me...I learned the hard way :)

In addition, I also got a cleaning job for a couple down the road-so that's some more income coming my way!

All for now! Thanks for reading!

Easy Lunch Idea

Tortilla pizza with sausage, onion and pepper.

puppies [part four]

Aspen x Tucker Litter

Daisy was the second born and is so adorable! She's black with white markings, like Bates. She's a lil sassy and very clumsy and energetic. She's got the tiny white spot on her neck like her mom and grandfather have. She has the cutest face <3

puppies [part three]

Aspen x Tucker Litter

Meet Bates! Very clearly Aspen's favorite (and mine :), he is the smallest puppy as of right now, with beautiful white markings and he's such a sweetie. He was born last and loves to stick his tongue out. He's so cute!

My Culinary Goal

Once a month I'm going to prepare an elaborate, four course meal for my family.

It'll be creative, non-alcoholic drinks like rosemary seltzers, delicious appetizers like artisan bread with umami spreads, challenging  entrees like coq au vin, and and fancy desserts like tiramisu or creme brûlée.

I'll bring you along on this goal and we'll see what happens!

Meet Carson [puppies part two]

Aspen x Tucker Litter

The first, born at two am, Carson is a big boy with a beautiful coat, white tipped toes, and an adorable squishy puppy face. He loves to sleep, eat, and be cuddled.

Meet Sybil [puppies part one]

Aspen x Tucker Litter

Dam: 1/2 St Bernard, 1/4 Bernese Mountain Dog, 1/8 Pyrenees, 1/8 Newfoundland
Sire: 1/2 Maremma, 1/2 Sarplanniac

Born at 3:19 am, Sybil is the biggest puppy at almost two pounds already. She is a pretty chill puppy, but when needed, she will sass you very loudly. She is a beautiful brindle with a ridge line on her back and the cutest white tipped toes.

Father's Day

Happy Father's Day!
We celebrated with BBQ Chicken, shooting at the gravel pit, and strawberry shortcake.

Strawberry Lemonade

I just made a simple syrup with sugar and water, added lemon juice and then pureed strawberries and water. Perfect strawberry lemonade!

there's nothing like hammocking with cousins and cats.

summer vibes

where I work

Where I work there is lots of laughter.

Laughter from excited children as they stand on their tiptoes and peer into the gelato case.

Laughter from the grandparents who bring the whole family in for a treat.

Laughter from the adults who just need a little pick me up milkshake before work.

Laughter from the travelers who say it tastes just like Italy.

Laughter from the tourists who love this little antique gem.

Of course, working in costumer service, you can't please everyone. There's the 'the texture's weird' 'there's not enough samples for how many choices there are' the 'these are too sweet' the 'it's too expensive the 'how did you not understand'. There's the unclear orders and the rude comments and the complicated customers.

But there's also the 'this tastes like heaven', 'I love this store', 'thank you for being so patient with us', 'I'm so impressed', 'I love your apron', 'thank you so much', 'you made my day'.

I need to remember to dwell on the amazing customers, not the rude ones. I meet so many kind, unkind, appreciative, impatient, and interesting people a day. I serve people who don't speak any English, people with English accents, people straight from Ireland, people from across the street, from Ohio, from Illinois, from Nigeria, from New York, from Italy.

I love my job when I really think about it.
